On April 16, 2020, Sumac Solar LLC (Sumac) filed a request to build a 120-MW solar photovoltaic electric generating facility to be located in Bertie County and operated as a merchant generating facility. Sumac proposes to begin construction in the second quarter of 2021, with a commercial operation date of as early as the fourth quarter of 2022. The facility would be located on seven parcels of land for a total of 3420 acres located around Woodard Road near Morning Road on its western side, and Middle Tract Road to the east outside of Windsor in Bertie County. The facility would interconnect with Dominion Energy’s transmission system. Sumac is negotiating to sell the facility’s output to an out-of-state corporate buyer. The facility is expected to have a service life of 20 or more years.

The Commission initially scheduled two hearings to consider this matter, but both have been cancelled because no written comments regarding the proposed facility were filed with the Commission.

Here is information about providing testimony at a public hearing.

Weapons are prohibited at Commission hearings, and everyone entering the building must pass through a metal detector.
