On November 13, 2020, Cherry Solar, LLC (Cherry Solar) filed a request to build a 180-MW solar electric generating facility in Northampton County. The proposed project would be located at 922 Oak Grove Church Road, 1315 Oak Grove Church Road, 105 Crossvine Lane, and 610 Cherry Tree Road, in the Town of Gaston. The facility will interconnect with the electric transmission system owned by Dominion Energy North Carolina, and it has an expected service life of 40 years.

The Commission has scheduled a hearing for January 27, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. in order to take testimony from public witnesses. This hearing might be cancelled if no substantial written complaints about the proposed facility are filed with the Commission on or before January 25, 2021.

The January 27 hearing will be held remotely via Webex. People who wish to participate will do so by telephone, and they must register in advance by 5:00 p.m., January 22, 2021. People who want to observe the hearing may do so via a YouTube link that will be available on this website the day of the hearing.

To register to testify at the January 27 hearing, contact the Public Staff by calling 866-380-9816. When registering please provide your name, the docket number (EMP-115 Sub 0), the telephone number you will be calling from during the hearing, and the topic of your testimony. Only people who register by 5:00 p.m. on January 22 will be allowed to testify at the hearing. Here is information about how to testify before the Commission.

Members of the public can also submit a written statement to the Commission via email. Be sure to include the docket number in the subject line. Another option is to mail a statement to the Commission at the address below. In either case, after two or three business days, statements are made part of the official record for the proceeding, and can be viewed on this website via Docket No. EMP-115 Sub 0.

The Commission has also scheduled an expert witness hearing in this matter where testimony will be heard from expert witnesses, including Cherry Solar employees. This hearing will be held remotely via Webex on May 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. The public may observe the hearing via a YouTube link that will be available on this website the day of the hearing.
